Melton Mowbray Distributor Road
A new route for growth
A circa £100 million investment designed to enable and facilitate local development and growth. Key benefits include improved access to housing and employment opportunities, improved access to Melton Mowbray Town Centre and a reduction in congestion and pollution in the Town Centre.
The route consists of a single carriageway road with walking and cycling facilities, and extends from the A606 Nottingham Road at the north-western edge of the town to the A606 Burton Road in the south, crossing Scalford Road, Melton Spinney Road, the A607 Thorpe Road and the B676 Saxby Road to Burton Road. The scheme features six new roundabouts on its route and provides crossings over the railway line and the River Eye.
Stockyard Melton Mowbray
A destination reimagined for food, culture and enterprise
Located in the centre of Melton Mowbray. The redevelopment will create a destination with an expanded events space designed to enhance the site’s role as a regional centre for food production, enterprise and tourism.
Food production will remain at the heart of the site, reinforcing Melton’s reputation as the nation’s Rural Capital of Food, and ensuring the space continues to champion our local producers and food heritage. It will also respond to a heightened demand for cultural and educational spaces, better serving our community and enhancing the site’s long-term value.

Food Manufacturing Zones
Making space for what we do best
Aiming to sustain and grow the already higher-than-average percentage of jobs in this sector and develop key skills and opportunities for enterprise. This will be achieved by promoting an attractive portfolio of land, along with planning, regulatory and business support services.
The Leicester Gateway site is allocated for employment use in the Melton Local Plan and represents a key growth site for the Manufacturing Zone. The Crossfield Drive/Saxby Road site is not allocated for employment within the Melton Local Plan, although it is within the boundary of the town. Each site has a Masterplan, which sets out indicative strategy plans and guidelines on development areas, access, heights, plot ratio & coverage and phasing.
